How to Reach Bamboo Island, Krabi, Thailand

Bamboo Island, known locally as Koh Mai Phai, is a stunning tropical getaway in the Andaman Sea, part of the Phi Phi Archipelago. This small island lies approximately 5 kilometers northeast of Phi Phi Don.

By Air and Boat

The starting point to reach Bamboo Island is Krabi or Phuket. If you're coming by air, you can fly into Krabi International Airport or Phuket International Airport from various domestic and international locations.

1. From either airport, you can take a taxi or a bus to the pier.
2. Krabi: From Ao Nang or Krabi Town, take a boat to Koh Phi Phi.
3. Phuket: Boats to Koh Phi Phi are available from Rassada Pier or Sea Angel Pier.
4. Once on Koh Phi Phi, there are regular longtail boat trips and speedboat tours that will take you to Bamboo Island.

Joining a Tour

Many visitors choose to visit Bamboo Island as part of a day tour, which typically includes stops at other nearby attractions such as Maya Bay and Monkey Beach. Tours can be booked in advance or through local travel agencies in Krabi or on Phi Phi Don.

Private Boat Charter

For a more intimate experience, you can charter a private longtail boat or speedboat from Koh Phi Phi, offering flexibility on timing and duration of the stay at Bamboo Island.

Things to Note

Entrance Fee: Keep in mind that there is a national park entrance fee to visit Bamboo Island which helps in the conservation efforts.

Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit Bamboo Island is from November to April when the sea is calm, and the weather is dry.

Accommodation: There are no accommodation facilities on the island, so overnight stays are not possible. Plan your trip accordingly to ensure you return to Phi Phi Don or mainland Krabi/Phuket after your visit.
