Not a good zoo
Not the best place to visit in Beijing… lt is often very crowded. Difficult to see the pandas. Some animals look unwell and mistreated.

Saddening and Horrifying
I went to the Beijing Zoo without reading any reviews beforehand, thinking it would be a great experience to see the pandas, and let’s just say it was a horrifying experience. I would not consider myself an animal fanatic or activist per se, but seeing how sad and distressed these animals were was heartbreaking. All of the animals are pretty much siloed in their own cramped cages (yes, they are kept in indoor cages with barely any sunlight, metal bars everywhere, and scenery painted onto the cement walls). One of the pandas was lying on its back on the cement floor hyperventilating with its hands over its eyes, it looked like it was crying. There was a chimpanzee pacing back and forth and a tiger by itself walking in a circle for multiple minutes straight - they all looked like they were going mad. On top of it, there were no zookeepers anywhere or any exhibits to interact or learn about the animals. Instead, they looked like they were rotting in these tiny horrible pens. This was especially disturbing given the vastness of the zoo - the entire compound spans about 200acres of land which has parks, restaurants, cafes, gift shops, statues, and pretty much everything but space for the animals to live. I left the zoo feeling saddened, horrified, disgusted, and heartbroken with the condition in which these animals are living in. I highly advise you to NOT go to this zoo, I wish I never had if only I had read these other reviews.

Do not go, horrible experience
We visited during Chinese holidays so we were expecting a lot of people, and there was a massive amount of people. The zoo itself is really poor, the cage conditions are awful and there are max 1 animal in the cage. In the penguin section there was literally one poor penguin ;o the polar bear section is under construction as well as many other buildings. Half of the birds looks like they went through some kind of attack… The literally only highlights are pandas, for which you need to stand in another queue to see like 2 pandas and then inside the panda house there is another queue to see one more panda. I don’t really recommend this place as the zoo is quite big but half the time you just walking pass empty cages or closed buildings. On top of everything, Chinese people can not behave properly and you can constantly hear like someone is banging the windows for the attention of this one poor animal or shouting, like that might help to get him better picture.

Great experience!!!
My primary goal at the Beijing Zoo was to see the pandas, and I was delighted when it came true. I spent an entire afternoon to observing them, finding them incredibly cute. The Giant Panda house was meticulously maintained and tidy, with courteous and helpful staff and baoan.

Loved the pandas and the zoo as a whole!
Great day out for families and grown adults who love animals. My friend took me here as I wanted to see the pandas. Must visit for those who love pandas. ????
