Best Time to Visit Buckingham Palace

The ideal time to visit Buckingham Palace in London, United Kingdom, is during the summer months, particularly from July to September. This is when the palace's State Rooms are open to the public, offering a unique opportunity to explore the lavish interiors where the royal family hosts state, ceremonial, and official affairs. Visiting during this time not only allows you to witness the grandeur of the 19 state rooms, but you can also see the special exhibitions that are often held annually. The summer opening usually coincides with the Changing of the Guard ceremony, a quintessential British experience that attracts many visitors and takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays around 11:00 AM, but it's advised to check the schedule in advance as it can change.

Another popular time to visit Buckingham Palace is in spring (April and May) or early autumn (late September and October). During these periods, the weather is mild, and the tourist crowds are generally thinner than in the peak of summer, making it a more comfortable time for exploring the palace exterior and the surrounding area, including the impressive Buckingham Palace gardens. If you are looking to explore the outside and watch the Changing of the Guard without attending the State Rooms, these shoulder seasons provide a great time to visit. For those interested in seeing the Royal Mews and the Queen's Gallery, they are open to the public throughout the year, with different exhibitions and collections on display.
