Bylakuppe, located in the Coorg district of Karnataka, India, is the largest Tibetan settlement in South India and is renowned for the splendid Namdroling Monastery, also known as the Golden Temple due to its gold-coated Buddhist statues. Spread over a vast area, the monastery complex is home to hundreds of monks. Founded by His Holiness Pema Norbu Rinpoche in 1963, it serves as an important center for the study and practice of Buddhism. With its colorful murals, intricate Tibetan artwork, and serene ambiance, the monastery provides a unique glimpse into Tibetan culture and spirituality. The Golden Temple features three awe-inspiring golden statues of Buddha Shakyamuni, Padmasambhava, and the Buddha Amitayus, each standing tall at around 60 feet. The annual Tibetan New Year celebration, known as Losar, is a festive time to visit with vibrant performances and rituals.
