Nagarhole National Park, also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park, is a wildlife reserve in the Kodagu and Mysore districts of Karnataka, India. This park is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and is backed by the Brahamagiri Mountains, spread over 247 square miles of lush forest area. Established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1955 and later designated a national park in 1988, Nagarhole boasts rich biodiversity. It houses a variety of flora and fauna, including tigers, leopards, wild dogs, sloth bears, and the Indian bison. The park is home to several streams and rivers, the largest being the Kabini River, which provides a life-sustaining resource for the region's wildlife. Birdwatching is also a popular activity here with over 270 species of birds. Safari tours are the main attraction, enabling visitors to explore the dense jungles and get a glimpse of the untamed wildlife in their natural habitats. The park is characterized by its tropical and deciduous forest cover, with bamboo and teak being prominent.
