Omkareshwara Temple is a sacred Hindu shrine located in the picturesque hill station of Coorg in Karnataka, India. Built by King Lingarajendra II in 1820 AD, the temple showcases a unique blend of Islamic and Gothic architecture, which is quite atypical for a Hindu temple. The central structure features a dome in the middle of a square lake, giving it a serene and sublime ambiance, reminiscent of a Muslim dargah. The Shiva Linga enshrined inside is believed to be powerful and attracts devotees from various parts of the country. The temple's history is shrouded in legends, one of which speaks of the king killing a pious Brahmin and later building the temple to appease the spirit of the slain. The surrounding area is lush with greenery, typical of Coorg's landscape, and the temple reflects the tranquility and beauty of the region.
