Best Time to Visit Cherrapunji (Sohra), Meghalaya

Cherrapunji, locally known as Sohra, is one of the wettest places on Earth, famed for its almost perpetual rainfalls and lush green landscapes. The best time to visit Cherrapunji is between the months of October and May. This period spans from post-monsoon season to the onset of the next monsoon. October and November offer a verdant panorama, as the region is still fresh from the monsoon's touch. It's the perfect time if you are looking for cooler weather without incessant rains. The waterfalls, including the renowned Nohkalikai Falls, are at their resplendent best, and the valleys and living root bridges are teeming with life.

From December to May, Cherrapunji enters into its drier phase, which is relatively less rainy, making it ideal for outdoor activities like trekking, exploring caves, and sightseeing. The temperature during these months remains pleasant, usually ranging between 12°C and 20°C. April and May, being the pre-monsoon months, are characterized by sporadic showers but generally pleasant weather, setting a perfect stage for those looking to enjoy the natural beauty of Cherrapunji without the challenges posed by heavy rainfall. During this period, the clarity of the skies usually allows for breathtaking views of the Bangladesh plains from the edge of the plateau on which Cherrapunji rests.
