The Chilapata Forests, nestled in the heart of West Bengal, are a dense jungle near the Jaldapara National Park in the Jalpaiguri district. This verdant corridor serves as an elephant migration route between Jaldapara and Buxa Tiger Reserve. The forests are home to a variety of wildlife, including the one-horned rhinoceros, leopards, elephants, sambar deer, and barking deer, as well as numerous birds and reptiles. Historical significance is marked by the ruins of the Nal Rajar Garh, a fort built in the Gupta period in the 5th century. The forest is lush with Sal, Simul, and diverse other flora. It offers a perfect blend of nature and history, offering tourists an opportunity to explore wildlife, enjoy jeep safaris, and absorb the heritage through the ruins. It is a biodiversity hotspot and conserves vast stretches of Riverine forests.
