Jaldapara National Park, situated at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas in Alipurduar District in West Bengal, India, is renowned for its vast grassland with patches of riverine forests. Established in 1941 for the protection of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros, it is spread over an area of 216.51 square kilometers. The park lies on the bank of the Torsa River and is a mosaic of woods, grasslands, and streams. Jaldapara is a habitat for a large variety of fauna, including the Royal Bengal Tiger, elephants, deer, sambhar, barking deer, spotted deer, hog deer, wild pigs, and the endangered Indian one-horned rhinoceros. The park is also an excellent abode for bird watchers, with hundreds of species including the rare Bengal florican, crest-headed eagle, Pallas's fish-eagle, shikra, Finn's weaver, jungle fowl, peafowl, and partridges. Elephant rides and jeep safaris offer unique opportunities for wildlife spotting and photography, while the various bodies of waters are home to the Indian python and numerous species of turtles.
