Gorumara National Park Tourism

Gorumara National Park is a pristine natural reserve located in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, India. Covering approximately 80 square kilometers, it is renowned for its population of Indian rhinoceros. The park is situated on the floodplains of the Murti and Raidak rivers, and it features a varied landscape with grasslands, forests, and riverine belts. Its topography makes it an ideal habitat for a diverse range of fauna, including elephants, bison, deer, and leopards. Besides the rich biodiversity, it also supports an abundance of bird species, making it a popular spot for birdwatching. Established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1949 and later declared a National Park in 1994, it has been a significant conservation area for wildlife and biodiversity. Gorumara National Park's ethnic and cultural backdrop is enhanced by the local communities, primarily the indigenous Gorkha, Rabha, and Toto tribes, who add to the region's unique cultural fabric.
