Coaker's Walk Tourism
Type of destination: Scenic Walking Area
Ideal visit duration: 1-2 hours
Coaker's Walk, a picturesque pedestrian path in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, is renowned for its enchanting panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys. It was built back in 1872 by Lieutenant Coaker and runs along the edge of steep slopes on the southern side of Kodai. The walkway is about one kilometer long and winds along the mountain wall, offering visitors breathtaking views that include cloud-hopping, protruding rocks, lush greenery, and the distant plains. On clear days, the Dolphin's Nose, Valley of the Pambar River, and even Madurai, are visible. On very cloudy days, the area is immersed in a misty atmosphere, adding to its mystical charm. Photographers and nature enthusiasts find this to be an ideal spot for capturing the beauty of Kodai and its surroundings. Numerous telescopes along the walk provide a closer look at the valley views. The pathway starts near Van Allen Hospital and ends at St. Peter's Church, providing a tranquil, scenic stroll that's both rejuvenating and captivating.
