Gangabal Lake, also known as Gangbal Lake, is a pristine alpine lake situated at the foothills of Mount Haramukh in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Nestled in the Himalayas at an altitude of about 3570 meters above sea level, the lake is a revered site among Hindus as it is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva. The lake is fed by melting snow and glaciers, which makes it a critical source of water for many downstream regions. Gangabal Lake is an important aquatic habitat hosting a variety of fish, including the famous trout. The area surrounding the lake is rich in biodiversity with a range of flora and fauna unique to the alpine climate. The trek to Gangabal Lake is a popular part of the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek, renowned for its stunning panoramic views, diverse landscapes, and the clear blue waters of the lake itself. The serene and tranquil environment provides an ideal retreat for nature enthusiasts, trekkers, and pilgrims alike. Despite its remote location, the lake attracts visitors for its natural beauty and cultural significance.
