This is only a bit more than a walk in a park
We did a Jeep 'safari'. On an asphalt road with some traffic... The guide did his best with boating, which is actually in some kind of pond, back and forth to a waterfall. All the time we heard the people in the restaurant talk and youth was hanging around with loud music on the bridge. Afterwards we made a long walk of 2.5 hours which was nice. But because if the wet season, was full of leech, we were not prepared for that mentally. In the end we saw some eephants about 1 km away, a deer, mongoose crossing the road and a huge spider during the walk. Everyone did his best, but it's the setup of this place that just didn't work for us.

Exceptional stay and trip at gavi
An excellent place to enjoy the wild life at its wildest way. We enjoyed the stay in there jungle hut and log house. Stay was exceptional. Felt very secured in spite of being in mid of the forest. Food was like home cooked. Limited varieties, but good for a day. There boating and bathing in falls is a awesome experience. A special mention to all the forest staffs there, a big hats off to them. They really make your stay comfortable and go extra miles to make you comfortable. Great. Keep it up.

Nice place
Even if we did not spot elephants, we spent an enjoyable family day in Gavi. During rainy season it s presumably more likely to see elephants. We took morning bus from Kumily (5.30 am from Kumily bus station, 66 rupees). The journey there was not exactly comfy, the road is curvy and kids were a bit unwell. But the road seems to be new, i m not sure if it would be much better with an off-road vehicle. In gavi we bought the package : breakfast, trekking, lunch, boating and waterfall, coffee. Our guide Kumar was super sweet and tailored the programme for us - we even had a nice little swim in the lake. Bus back to Kumily was leaving at 4.30 pm, so we had some time left to just hang out near the lake, when other visitors had already left. The bus journey back was also a bit adventurous, but very scenic. Driver stopped a few times to watch animals we met ( gaur, black monkeys).

Don't waste your money
We booked this trip through tourist information office We were picked up at 5.15 am and traveled to the reserve, at arrival We had to pay more money to get in. The jeep took us through the reserve, we saw two monkeys and 1 bison we got to the centre at 7.50 am where we had to check in. We was told to go to the restaurant for breakfast there was no where to get any thing to drink only water from a water dispenser, we chose not to drink from this as we have seen these plastic containers being filled up from stand pipes so thought best thing to do is give it a miss. Breakfast was not ready till 9.30am and to be honest it was terrible it was all Luke warm despite just being made. The tea and coffee came out which was very welcome. After breakfast we were introduced to our guide he then took us on a rowing boat and he rowed around a lake for about half an hour. We never saw anything only a couple of birds. He then took us to there so called museum very small it had a few skulls in there and an elephant skeleton. He then took us on a hike, the views were nice but not amazing, I had to cut the hiking short only done 10 minutes as it was to steep for me. My partner carried on with the guide. I went back to the so called restaurant and waited for her return which was about half an hour. So the time now was 11.50 am still nowhere to get a drink. We waited for dinner which was at 12.30 most people had left the reserve by now. The dinner was barely Luke warm, so that was no dinner for us there was no drinks to be had only water, I asked if I could have tea or coffee and was told no that would be at tea time about 4.30. I asked what do we do now and was told there is nothing to do only wait till tea time, so they wanted us to wait approximately 4 hours doing nothing for tea, all the guides had gone home and the kitchen staff had packed up and were waiting for their bus home. So even in the unlikely event that we waited there would have been no staff or guides. There was just 4 couples left who were all complaining about the trip. We went to check in and asked to see someone regarding refund but all of a sudden no one understood English, luckily one of the couples was indian and they were just told the manager is in meeting somewhere else and couldn't be contacted and didn't know when he could be. So we left and asked our driver to take us to the office where we had booked. On arriving at office at about 2.50pm I complained about the trip and the jeep driver backed me up, the guy asked us to Wright a short statement about trip so he could submit. He said he had no money in the office to give me. So he said he would sort it. he took a photo of my credit card and all my details as we were leaving next day. But surprise surprise I have heard nothing, I have tried emailing them several times but have not even had an acknowledgement. This trip cost us about £78 and in mine and the other couples opinion was a complete waste of money. I feel really sad that these people have to rip people off to get by.

Great drive through the forest
Entry into Gavi starts at Angamoozhy check post, from where you have to enter before 11 am. The drive through the forest is an exhilarating experience that lasts for around 5-6 hours, all the way to the Vandiperiyar checkpost. There’s nothing in particular to do at Gavi unless you book for for packages provided by KFDC beforehand, and will consist of plantation visits, jungle safari, etc. If they had some activities that can be provided on-arrival, I would have given a five star rating (I really wish I could do the Jungle safari). There are also a number of views, plant and animal wildlife whilst on the way to Gavi. Overall a great experience!
