Hazarduari Palace Museum, located in the campus of Kila Nizamat in Murshidabad, West Bengal, India, is a grandiose structure from the 19th century. Constructed under the patronage of Nawab Nazim Humayun Jah of Bengal, Bihar, and Orissa, the palace's name 'Hazarduari' translates to 'a thousand doors', referring to its 900 real and 100 false doors designed to confuse intruders. The palace exhibits a blend of European architectural styles and was designed by architect Duncan Macleod. Historically, it served as the Nawab's residence and the seat of the Nawab's power, with grand Durbar Halls showcasing detailed stucco work. Today, Hazarduari Palace is a protected monument, overseen by the Archaeological Survey of India and converted into a museum that displays a rich collection of antiquities, including priceless paintings, furniture, and antiques that reflect the opulent lifestyle and history of the Nawabs of Bengal.
