Kapilvastu is a district in Lumbini Province of Nepal, rich in cultural and historical significance. This ancient town is traditionally considered the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, who later became the Buddha. Kapilvastu is believed to be the capital of the Shakya kingdom, where Prince Siddhartha lived in opulence before he sought enlightenment. The region is laden with archaeological remains associated with the early life of the Buddha. Many stupas and monasteries dot the area, with excavations revealing the complex history and legacy of Buddhist teachings. Major attractions include the ruins of the ancient palatial complex at Tilaurakot, which is considered to be the historical site of the Buddha's home. Apart from its rich Buddhist heritage, Kapilvastu offers insight into the rural life of Nepal, surrounded by serene landscapes and agricultural fields. It is a pilgrimage destination for Buddhists as well as a place of study for historians and archaeologists.
Located in the shadows / vicinity of Lumbini, Kapilavastu, often overlooked by visitors, takes you back in time! Good efforts to maintain the place.
