By Air

Although Kapilvastu doesn't have its own airport, the closest one is in Siddharthanagar (Bhairahawa), which operates domestic flights from Kathmandu and other major cities of Nepal. The Gautam Buddha Airport is approximately 25 km away from Kapilvastu. Upon landing, you can hire a taxi or take a local bus to reach Kapilvastu.

By Road

Kapilvastu is well-connected by road. Tourists can opt for the following modes of transport:

  • Local Buses: Frequent local buses run from major cities like Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan to Kapilvastu.
  • Micro Buses or Vans: A slightly faster and more comfortable means than the regular buses.

By Train

Currently, Nepal does not have an operational railway system connecting to Kapilvastu. The nearest railway station is in Gorakhpur, India, which is approximately 122 kilometers away. From there, you can cross the border into Nepal and take a bus or taxi to reach Kapilvastu.
