Best Time To Visit Majuli (Assam) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Majuli, Assam, India

The ideal time to visit Majuli, which is renowned for being one of the largest river islands in the world, is between October and March. During these months, the climate is pleasantly mild and perfect for exploring the beautiful natural landscapes, vibrant culture, and unique traditions of the Mishing people who inhabit the island. October brings the end of monsoons and the start of the autumn season, making it a great month to witness Majuli in its full bloom. The water levels of the Brahmaputra river recede, revealing the island's full expanse and making it easier to travel to different parts of it without the hindrance of floods.

November to February marks the winter season in Majuli, and temperatures can range from a cool 10°C to a comfortable 25°C. This season is especially suitable for bird watchers, as numerous migratory birds are spotted in the area. The Ali-ai-ligang festival in February, a significant festival of the Mishing community showcasing dances, music, and a traditional feast, is a cultural highlight not to be missed. However, it's worth noting that it can get quite chilly in the evenings and early mornings, so visitors should come prepared with warm clothing. Tourists are advised to avoid the monsoon season from June to September due to heavy rainfall, which can lead to severe flooding and make transportation to and within the island very challenging.
