Type of destination: Hiking Trail
The Mangdue Foot Trail is a scenic hiking path located in Trongsa, a central district in the Kingdom of Bhutan. Notably less traveled and more pristine than some of Bhutan's more famous paths, the Mangdue Foot Trail provides a peaceful trekking experience. It meanders alongside the Mangde Chhu River, offering hikers panoramic views of the lush landscapes and steep mountainous terrain typical of Bhutan. The trail is also culturally significant, traversing areas close to historical sites and allowing visitors to witness traditional Bhutanese village life. While on the trail, one might encounter farmers working in their fields, monasteries in peaceful seclusion, and diverse flora and fauna. The entirety of Trongsa district is rich in history with the majestic Trongsa Dzong being a key highlight, once serving as the seat of power over the central and eastern regions. Trongsa, being the geographical center of the country, is lauded for its strategic importance and indigenous heritage, which the Mangdue Foot Trail encapsulates through the natural and cultural richness lining its path.
