Type of destination: Mountain Pass
Yutong La Pass, situated in Trongsa, Bhutan, at an altitude of approximately 3,400 meters above sea level, serves as a key conduit linking central Bhutan to the east. Encircled by the rugged terrain that characterizes Bhutan's landscape, the pass remains wrapped in a blanket of snow during winter, making it somewhat challenging for travel. Despite this, it is an integral part of Bhutan's infrastructure. Decorated with fluttering prayer flags and offering panoramic views of the Black Mountains, the pass is not just a route but also a spot for tranquility and reflection. Yutong La Pass is a testimony to the engineering prowess, adapting to the tough terrains of the Himalayas. This high mountain pass is lined with rhododendron forests that bloom spectacularly in the spring, adding a burst of color to the landscape. For visitors, the pass provides a unique vantage point to understand Bhutanese culture, where nature and religion converge, making it an essential experience when exploring Bhutan's rich heritage and unspoiled environment.

Normal mountain pass
About one hour drive from Trongsa. Normal mountain pass, with Chorten and prayer flags. View is not bad but not as spectacular as Dochula. Lots of construction. So very dusty and messy.
