Trongsa Dzong, also known as Chökhor Raptentse Dzong, is a significant and historic dzong located in Trongsa, Bhutan. Perched atop a steep ridge above the gorges of the Mangde River, the dzong offers a commanding view of the surrounding landscape, which earned it strategic importance in Bhutan's history. Constructed in 1644, it served as the seat of power for the Trongsa Penlop, the governor of Trongsa prior to ascending to the throne. The importance of Trongsa Dzong is further accentuated due to the tradition that the crown prince of Bhutan must serve as the Trongsa Penlop before ascending the throne. The architecture features a series of courtyards, temples, offices, and living quarters harmoniously blended with the natural topography. The massive structure is an architectural marvel and embodies Bhutanese culture and the Buddhist way of life. The dzong also hosts the annual Trongsa Tsechu, a religious festival featuring mask dances and cultural displays. Its central location in Bhutan makes it pivotal in the nation's administration and religious affairs.
