Best Time to Visit Manimahesh Lake

Located in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, Manimahesh Lake is a high altitude lake that is both a natural marvel and a significant pilgrimage spot, nestled at the foot of Mount Kailash. The best time to visit this serene destination is between the months of June and September, which is also the period when the annual Manimahesh Yatra takes place. The Yatra is held in the month of August-September, coinciding with the Janmashtami (the birthday of Lord Krishna) festival. During this time, the weather is relatively stable, with warmer days and crisp nights, which is ideal for trekking and witnessing the mesmerizing beauty of the lake without the hindrance of heavy snow or extreme cold conditions.

The pilgrimage period sees a large influx of devotees, so it’s crucial to make arrangements in advance if you plan on visiting during the Yatra. However, if a quieter experience is what you seek, choosing the month of June or early July might be preferable, just before the onset of the monsoon and the Yatra period. While the trails and surroundings are pristine and the lake is a sight to behold under the summer sky, it's important to be cautious about the sporadic pre-monsoon showers. Regardless of when you visit, ensure that you are well-prepared with appropriate clothing and gear, as temperatures can drop significantly at the high altitude of Manimahesh Lake, which is situated over 4,080 meters above sea level.
