Marayoor Dolmens are megalithic burial sites located in Marayoor, approximately 40 kilometers from Munnar in Kerala, India. These prehistoric remnants date back to the Iron Age. The area is known for its numerous dolmens, which are large stone slabs that were arranged to create chamber-like structures that served as burial sites. Often referred to as Muniyaras, these dolmens stand as silent yet powerful testimonies to the area's ancient past. These structures are typically found atop rocky hills and are surrounded by lush forests and plantations, offering serene and picturesque landscapes. Apart from its historical significance, Marayoor is famous for being the only place in Kerala that has a natural growth of sandalwood trees. The region is also known for its sugarcane cultivation and the traditional jaggery made here is quite renowned. Visitors to Marayoor Dolmens can also explore nearby attractions such as the beautiful Thoovanam waterfalls and the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary.
