Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Idukki district of Kerala, India, is a unique protected area due to its ecological, floral, geomorphologic, and cultural significance. Spread over 90.44 km2, it lies in the rain shadow region of the Western Ghats, resulting in significantly less rainfall compared to other parts of Kerala. Because of this, Chinnar boasts a dry deciduous forest, thorny scrub forest, and grasslands, making it an ideal habitat for a diverse set of flora and fauna, including many endangered species. The sanctuary is home to the grizzled giant squirrel, elephants, gaurs, spotted deer, and numerous birds and insects. The Chinnar River and Pambar River meander through the sanctuary, creating a rich riparian ecosystem. Several watchtowers and eco-tourism initiatives offer opportunities for tourists to experience the sanctuary's wildlife and scenic beauty up close while also contributing to conservation efforts. The cultural heritage is also significant, with prehistoric dolmens and cave paintings within the sanctuary.

Jungle walk in Chinnar
Walk safari in Chinnar forest was adventurous. we had a 3 hours walk in the forest to reach Thoovanam water fall. We did not spot any wild life except monkeys but the experience was awesome.
