Nav Nalanda Mahavihara Tourism

Nav Nalanda Mahavihara, located in Nalanda, Bihar, India is a modern center for Buddhist studies, which was established in 1951. It is intended to inherit the legacy of the ancient center of higher learning which was present at the same site. The ancient Nalanda University, dating back to the 5th century, was one of the world’s earliest residential universities and had scholars visiting from regions as far as Tibet, China, Greece, and Persia. Although the Mahavihara does not retain much of the ancient grandeur, the institution stands as a symbol of the great historical significance of the region. Reconstruction efforts aimed at restoring some of the ancient stupas and structures are evidence of the site's ongoing archaeological importance. Nav Nalanda Mahavihara is not just a site of historical significance but also an active institute dedicated to the study and research of Buddhism, Pali literature, and philosophy. Cultural and religious activities form a vital part of the Mahavihara's ethos, making it a living bridge between the past and present.
