The Navagraha Temple, situated atop Chitrasal Hill in Guwahati, Assam, is an ancient center of astrology and astronomy. This temple is dedicated to the nine celestial bodies or 'grahas' of Hindu astrology, including the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the ascending and descending lunar nodes known as Rahu and Ketu. Historically, the city of Guwahati was originally known as 'Pragjyotishpura' meaning 'the city of eastern astrology.' The temple finds its existence dating back to the 18th century and has significant astrological and historical implications. Enshrined within are nine Shivalingams, each representing one of the Navagrahas, and adorned with a representative color cloth. This reflects the temple's strong association with Shaivism, as worshippers often seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. Navagraha Temple's hill location provides visitors with panoramic views of the surrounding city and the Brahmaputra River, enhancing its appeal as a serene spiritual destination.
