Panhala Fort, located in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, India, stands proudly at an elevation of 977 meters above sea level. It is the largest fort in the Deccan region, sprawling over 7 kilometers in perimeter. With a rich history dating back to 1178-1209 CE, it was built by the Shilahara ruler Bhoja II. It has witnessed various dynasties and has been under the control of the Yadavas, Bahamani Sultanate, Maratha Empire, and the British. The fort is famous for its association with the Maratha king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who used it as a strategic location for his kingdom's defence. The architecture showcases the Maratha heritage, with massive ramparts, bastions, and gateways. Significant attractions include the Teen Darwaza, Sajja Kothi, and Ambarkhana. The fort also offers panoramic views of the Sahyadri mountain range.
