Parrot Island
At 1640 hrs we left Baratang for " Parrot island" , a total distance of 30 Km To our goodluck from cloudy sky the weather changed in a jiffy to a bright Sun set of the Monday evening on our way to " Parrot Island". A beautiful speedboat ride and to our amazement spotted the rainbow in the sky.Unbelievable Baratang weather where just a hour ago there was a continuous drizzle of rain and a cloudy overcast sky.On our way was lucky to spot the hut of a Jarawa tribal built on the edge of a Evergreen Monsoon forest island cliff.We finally arrived at " Parrot Island" and the engine was stopped and boat drifting in close proximity to this unique tiny island that resembled a carpeted table top of evergreen forest.A few other tourist boats arrived in the vicinity all waiting for the arrival of the flocks of parakeets at total Sunset during twilight zone.Finally as it was almost getting pitch dark the parakeets arrived in droves encircling the tiny island and finally descending like helicopters onto this tiny evergreen forest carpet.A indescribable sight as also a unique phenomenon of nature.Why do all these parakeets descend only on this particular island for roosting at night and not any of the numerous uninhabited islands in the vicinity.Finally it was total darkness and the night still with no chirping of parakeets arriving on this island as the entire flock was now firmly settled on the trees on this island.We headed back to Baratang.

Parrot Island in Baratang Island. A dont miss experience.
Going to Baratang means a must-see boat trip to Parrot Island. The boat trip, the waiting on the boat anchored some distance away from the Parrot Island, surrounded by the silence, the small green islands, the still waters...and then the firs sighting of those tiny birds navigating surely towards their home to roost. Man! Nature is amazing. Wonderful.

Beautiful mangrove island visited by hundreds (or more) of parrots after sunset
A beautiful boat ride through dense mangrove forests brings you to Parrot island, a low island covered entirely by mangroves. The boats depart from Baratang's Nilambar jetty half an hour before sunset. Hundreds (more in summer) of parrots visit the island well after sunset; You can see them flying overhead and hear their calls, but do not expect to be able to photograph the parrots, as it quickly gets dark and there isn't generally much twilight in the tropics. Nevertheless, well worth the experience. We even saw a Jarawa hut on the way to the island.

Best place to view daily migration of parrots
This is a very small island off the Baratang Jetty and can be accessed by motorboat or normal boat. One has to wear safety gear and not to put hand in water as there is a danger of crocodiles. There is a daily migration of thousands of birds from one island to another around sunset and one can hear loud chirping of these parrots, which are in different colours and sizes.

Too many parrots
We had heard a lot about this island so decided to visit this place. Took a boat ride from Baratang Jetty , went deep into waters and while coming back, went towards parrots island and were happy to see thousands of parrots of various types and shapes. I recommend this as a must see activity for nature lovers.
