Phillaur Fort, also known as Maharaja Ranjit Singh Fort, is located in the town of Phillaur in the Ludhiana district of Punjab, India. This historical edifice dates back to the Mughal period and was later redesigned by an Italian architect under the reign of the Sikh ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the 19th century. It reflects a unique blend of Italian and Sikh architecture, making it a distinctive landmark in the region. The fort was strategically placed on the banks of the Sutlej River to secure the area against invasion. Over time, the fort has served multiple purposes, including as a military fortress, a regional administrative center, a police training academy, and currently houses the Punjab Police Academy. The fort spans a considerable area and is equipped with thick walls, ramparts, and bastions. It's a testimony to Punjab's rich history and its strategic military importance in the past. Visitors can explore the history-laden galleries, the living quarters, and the lush gardens within the fort's complex.
