Arriving in Pyongyang
International Travel: If you're an international traveler, you will generally arrive in Pyongyang by air or train. Most visitors come via Beijing, China:

Visa and Tours
In North Korea, independent travel is not permitted. You'll need to book a tour with an authorized tour operator who will take care of your visa application and itinerary:
- Tour Group: Once in Pyongyang, the tour group you have booked with will generally arrange all transportation within the city, including visits to the metro.
Accessing the Pyongyang Metro
Here are the steps for accessing the Pyongyang Metro once you're in the city:
- Tour-guided Visit: Your tour guide will lead you to one of the metro stations. Entrance to the stations is typically included as part of the tour's itinerary, as foreigners are not allowed to travel independently within the city.
- Prepare to see elaborately decorated stations, which double as bomb shelters. The two main stations usually shown to tourists are Puhung (Reconstruction) and Yonggwang (Glory).
Important Information
- Photography: Follow your guideās instructions diligently. Photography in the metro is usually allowed, but only at designated stations and must be done with care.
Due to the nature of travel restrictions and the political situation, always ensure you have up-to-date information before planning your trip, and remain respectful of local laws and customs.
