Ranchi Lake: A Serene Getaway in the Heart of Jharkhand

Ranchi Lake, nestled in the heart of Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand, India, is a popular destination for both locals and tourists seeking solace and tranquility amidst the bustling city life. This picturesque lake is an artificial one, excavated in 1842 by Colonel Onsley, a British agent, and since then, it has been a pivotal point of interest within the region.

History of Tourism at Ranchi Lake

Tourism in the area has historical significance, dating back to the colonial era when the city served as a summer retreat for British officers due to its cooler climate. Over the years, Ranchi Lake has become a beloved spot for picnics, boating, and leisurely strolls. Its proximity to the famous Ranchi Hill, which is known for its religious significance and panoramic views, added to its appeal as a tourist destination.

Post-independence, the Indian government, along with the state authorities, recognized the potential of Ranchi Lake in contributing to the local tourism industry.
