Sivagiri Mutt is a revered ashram and pilgrimage center located atop the Sivagiri hill in Varkala, Kerala, India. Founded by the great social reformer and sage Sree Narayana Guru, the ashram was established in 1904 and serves as the final resting place of the Guru. The architecture of the Mutt is simple and reflects the principles of the founder who promoted equality and social justice. The main attractions include the Guru's Samadhi (final resting place), a temple dedicated to Saraswathy (goddess of learning), and an annual pilgrimage event known as Sivagiri Pilgrimage during December 30 to January 1, which draws thousands of devotees. The serene environment of the Mutt against the backdrop of lush greenery provides a tranquil retreat for spiritual seekers. Most peaceful surroundings
A must visit. A trek up the hill by road or steps and a lovely ashram. Unfortunately closed due to the COVID effect however, the walk and surroundings were worth it.

Worth a visit
Located in the heart of the town. A very calming experience. Look out for the meaningful anecdotes displayed on either side of the stairs on the way to the samadhi.

Nice place w/ a special meaning for us
Our yoga teacher brought us here, as he studied and lived here for decades. It is a beautiful place with many trees, bearing fruit and we even saw bats, hanging upside down. The bathrooms are not go..
