Anjengo Fort Tourism

Anjengo Fort, also known as Anchuthengu Fort, is a historic fort located on the outskirts of Varkala, a coastal town in the state of Kerala, India. The fort was established by the British East India Company in the 17th century and served as a significant trading post and military barracks during colonial times. The word 'Anjengo' is believed to be derived from the Malayalam words 'Anju' meaning five and 'Angu' meaning finger, symbolizing the five hillocks in the area. The fort is surrounded by large walls that protected it from sea attacks and is situated on a cliff that offers picturesque views of the Arabian Sea. Within the fortress walls, there are several ancient tombstones and a cemetery dating back to the occupants of that era. Anjengo Fort is not just a mere tourist attraction but also a testament to the historical episodes that shaped the region's colonial past.
