Sultan Battery is a historical fortification constructed by the famous emperor Tipu Sultan in the 18th century. Located in Boloor, 4 kilometers from the center of Mangalore city in Karnataka, India, this watchtower was erected to keep a lookout for the entry of warships into the Gurupura River. Composed primarily of black stones, it was a strategic point and a significant aspect of the defense system of Tipu Sultan's empire, especially against British advancement from the Arabian Sea. Despite its name 'Sultan Battery', it does not refer to an artillery battery, but rather to the site's function as a watch tower and fort. Over time, the structure has weathered, and much of the fort has been eroded, yet it stands as a testament to the ingenuity and military prowess of the era. Today, it is a popular tourist destination offering panoramic views of the sea and the sunset, as well as an opportunity to delve into the historical past of the region.
