Best Time to Visit Thongsha Gumpha, Kalimpong

Thongsha Gumpha, also known as Tharpa Choling Monastery, is a serene Buddhist monastery located in the picturesque town of Kalimpong in West Bengal, India. To make the most of your visit to this spiritual haven, the best time to travel is during the spring months of March to May. During this period, the weather is pleasantly warm with the temperature ranging from 15°C to 25°C, creating an ideal climate for exploration and sightseeing. The skies are generally clear, offering magnificent views of the surrounding Kanchenjunga range. Additionally, the spring season sees Kalimpong bursting into vibrant colors with blooming flowers and lush greenery, enhancing the tranquil environment of the Gumpha.

Another favorable time for visiting Thongsha Gumpha is in the autumn, during the months of September to November. The post-monsoon freshness coupled with the mild weather conditions, where temperatures fluctuate between 15°C to 20°C, makes it a great time for tourists to explore the monastery and enjoy the splendid vistas of the region. This time also coincides with several local festivals, adding to the cultural richness of your visit. However, it is crucial to avoid the monsoon season from June to August due to heavy rainfall, which can lead to travel disruptions. Moreover, winter months from December to February can be quite cold, although the wintry atmosphere might appeal to certain travelers seeking a more tranquil visit, away from the larger tourist crowds.
