Best Time to Visit U Lum Sunaraja (Royal Tombs), Jowai

The ideal time to visit U Lum Sunaraja, also known as the Royal Tombs in Jowai, Meghalaya, is during the dry season, which spans from November to May. This period is characterized by pleasant weather conditions, with minimal rainfall, which makes it easier to explore the tombs and the beautiful Jaintia Hills landscape. The temperature during these months is generally comfortable, staying within a range that facilitates outdoor activities without the hindrances of heavy monsoon showers that can occur from June to September. Travellers will find that the clear skies and cooler temperatures provide a delightful setting for learning about the historical and cultural significance of the Royal Tombs.

Among the best times within this period is to plan a visit around local festivals to experience the vibrant cultural heritage of Meghalaya. The most notable festival is the Behdienkhlam festival, usually held in July after the agricultural sowing period. Although immediately following the recommended period, this festival might be worth braving the monsoon for those interested in cultural experiences. Otherwise, visiting between March and April allows witnessing the blooming of beautiful orchids and other flowers that adorn the region, adding to the serene atmosphere around ancient Royal Tombs and enhancing the overall travel experience.
