Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves are a group of rock-cut shelters located in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, India. These caves are situated on two adjacent hills, Udayagiri and Khandagiri, and are historically significant as they were carved out as residential blocks for Jain monks during the reign of King Kharavela in the 2nd century BCE. Udayagiri, which means 'Sunrise Hill,' has 18 caves, while Khandagiri, or 'Broken Hill,' has 15 caves. These ancient caves are adorned with beautiful carvings and inscriptions that provide insight into the life of the Jain ascetics as well as the social and political life during the time of King Kharavela. The Rani Gumpha (Queen's Cave), the largest and most popular cave, is known for its elaborate sculptures depicting scenes of royal life and religious festivities. These caves are an important pilgrimage site for Jainism and attract visitors for their historical value and architectural beauty.

Very peaceful
It's a beautifully preserved monument of caves and ancient rocks. A good visit worth a couple of hours to get away from the rush of the city.
