Best Time to Visit Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves

The ideal time to visit the Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves in Bhubaneswar, Odisha is during the cooler months from October to February. During this period, the climate is particularly agreeable, with temperatures ranging from a brisk 15°C to a comfortable 30°C. This favourable weather provides a comfortable atmosphere for exploring the intricate carvings and historic relics at the site without the discomfort of the oppressive summer heat. Additionally, the monsoon season has passed, reducing the likelihood of travel disruptions due to rain. Therefore, visitors can experience these ancient Jain heritage sites, deeply etched with history and spirituality, under clear skies and pleasant temperatures.

Visiting early in the morning or late in the afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday sun since these are open-air sites with limited shade. The softer lighting conditions during these times also offer an excellent opportunity to capture stunning photographs of the caves’ intricate art and serene surroundings. Moreover, the winter season hosts various festivals and cultural events that can enhance your travel experience. Makar Sankranti in January, Adivasi Mela towards the end of January, and Dhauli-Kalinga Mahotsav in February are notable events showcasing the region's rich culture, dance, and heritage, adding a lively dimension to your visit to these historical sites.
