Unawatuna Beach, located in the coastal town of Unawatuna in Galle district, is among the most famous beaches in Sri Lanka, attracting tourists with its beautiful golden sands and turquoise waters. This crescent-shaped beach is enveloped by lush greenery and palm trees, creating a serene tropical ambiance. It is well-loved for its picturesque scenery, relaxed atmosphere, and its suitability for swimming and snorkeling due to the coral reef that protects the beach which also hosts a diverse marine life. Unawatuna also offers a variety of seafood restaurants, beach bars, and cafes along the coastline, providing plenty of options for dining and leisure. Moreover, the beach has a lively vibe, with frequent traditional cultural shows and music performances in the evenings. Its proximity to Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, adds cultural and historical value to visitors’ experience. Tourists can explore the fort and then unwind on the beach, making it a perfect combination of cultural exploration and relaxation.
