Best Time To Visit Unawatuna Beach (Galle) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Unawatuna Beach, Galle, Sri Lanka

The best period to visit Unawatuna Beach in Galle, Sri Lanka is from December to April. During these months, the weather is predominantly dry with clear blue skies, minimal rainfall, and the temperature hovers around a comfortable 28-32°C (82-90°F). This makes it an ideal climate for beach activities, swimming, and sunbathing. Furthermore, the sea conditions are perfect for water sports such as snorkeling and scuba diving, with the underwater visibility being at its peak. Tourists flock to Unawatuna during this time to experience the vibrant marine life, as the waters are rich with coral reefs and a myriad of fish species.

In contrast, the offseason, particularly from May to November, sees heavier rainfall due to the southwest monsoon. While the beach remains accessible, the sea can be rough, and outdoor activities might be limited due to sporadic showers and overcast weather. However, for those looking to avoid the crowds and enjoy a more secluded environment, visiting during these months might be appealing. Furthermore, accommodation rates tend to be lower, and the lush surroundings are at their most scenic. Visitors in the offseason can still enjoy local attractions such as the historic Galle Fort, which is a short distance away from Unawatuna Beach and remains a must-visit regardless of the season.
