The World Peace Pagoda, also known as Shanti Stupa, is a magnificent structure in Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha in Nepal. Here's how you can reach this peaceful and historic place.
The closest airport to Lumbini is Gautam Buddha Airport in Bhairahawa. Upon landing, you can hire a taxi to take you directly to the World Peace Pagoda in Lumbini, which is approximately a 45-minute drive.
Visitors can reach Lumbini by road from major cities in Nepal. From Kathmandu, you can take a bus or hire a car for a more comfortable journey, which will take around 6 to 8 hours. From Pokhara, buses are available for the 8-hour drive to Lumbini.
As of my knowledge cutoff in 2023, there is no direct train service to Lumbini. Visitors typically use a combination of train to nearby Indian cities and then continue by road to cross the border into Nepal.
Once in Lumbini, rickshaws and taxis are available for local transport. It is also possible to rent bicycles to explore the area, which offers a serene and unique experience.
