Alamgir Mosque, also known as Beni Madhav Ka Darera, is a 17th-century mosque situated on the banks of the Ganges River in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. It stands on the site of a Vishnu temple and was constructed by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb after demolishing the temple. The mosque is known for its unique blend of Hindu and Islamic architecture, representing the culture of Varanasi which is a confluence of different faiths. The structure showcases the high domes and minarets typical of Mughal design, but also retains the original Hindu temple foundation and is said to even incorporate some of the temple's remains. The mosque is a historical landmark and a symbol of India's composite culture, despite its controversial past. It offers panoramic views of the holy river and is a place for not just religious activities, but also for people to appreciate the rich heritage of Varanasi.
