New Vishwanath Temple, also known as Birla Mandir, is located in the expansive campus of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the most prominent landmarks in the holy city of Varanasi. It was planned by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, the founder of BHU, and built by the Birla family, hence the name 'Birla Mandir'. Unlike many other temples in Varanasi, this temple is open to people from all castes and religions. The temple structure is built in white marble, and its large towers dominate the city's skyline. It hosts a splendid Shiva lingam and a massive scripture hall where the text of Gita is inscribed on the walls. The temple's architecture is a fine example of contemporary temple craftsmanship infused with traditional elements. The premises of Birla Mandir also consist of seven other temples dedicated to various Hindu gods and goddesses.
