Amareswara Temple, situated in Amaravathi town in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, is dedicated to Lord Shiva, known here as Amareswara or Amaralingeswara. This ancient temple is associated with the Amararama, one of the five Pancharama Kshetras, which are significant shrines of Shiva in the region. The temple boasts a rich history that stretches back to times immemorial. According to legend, the Shivalinga here was installed by Lord Indra. The temple is situated on the southern bank of the holy Krishna River and is renowned for its architectural magnificence and spiritual ambiance. The temple features a tall gopuram that was constructed in the Dravidian style and is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures that depict various deities and stories from Hindu mythology. The presiding deity is represented by a 15 feet high white marble Shivalinga. Amareswara Temple is not just a sacred pilgrimage center but also a hub for cultural and religious activities, especially during the Maha Shivaratri festival, when it attracts thousands of devotees from across the country.
