Uppalapadu Bird Sanctuary Tourism

Uppalapadu Bird Sanctuary is located near Guntur, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. This natural reserve is renowned for serving as a crucial habitat for a variety of migratory and local birds. Spread across 4.5 acres, the bird sanctuary is mainly known for the large numbers of painted storks and spot-billed pelicans it attracts. It features several small irrigation tanks, which offer the perfect environment for the birds to roost and breed, particularly during their nesting season. Villagers originally used the tanks for agriculture but realized the need to protect the thriving birdlife. The sanctuary supports more than 40 species of birds, including the ibis, cormorants, and white-necked storks. The villagers' cooperation in conserving birdlife, alongside the help of forest officials, has made Uppalapadu an exemplar of avian conservation. Visitors can observe the birds from close quarters using the installed watch towers and binoculars, making it a photographer's and birdwatcher's haven.
