Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is one of the largest and most significant dams in India, situated on the Krishna River in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. With a height of 124 meters and a length of 1 kilometer, the dam creates one of the largest man-made lakes in the world, known as the Nagarjuna Sagar Reservoir. It plays a vital role in irrigation and water supply for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, supporting multiple districts. Apart from its functional importance, it is also a popular tourist spot, offering stunning panoramic views, a rich historical significance with ancient Buddhist monuments like Nagarjunakonda – an island museum nearby with relics and ruins, and a serene environment for picnics and leisure activities. The engineering marvel has 26 crest gates and a hydroelectric plant as well. Visitors can often witness the spectacular sight of water being released from the crest gates during the monsoon season.
