Mangalagiri, a town in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, India, is renowned for its religious significance, historic sites, and textile industry. One of the eight important Mahakshetrams (sacred places) in India, Mangalagiri is home to a unique temple, the Panakala Narasimha Swamy Temple, where the deity Lord Narasimha is offered Panakam, a jaggery water concoction instead of regular naivedyam. This temple is located on a hillock and requires visitors to climb many steps to reach it, offering panoramic views of the surrounding area. The town's name, 'Mangalagiri', translates to 'Auspicious Hill'. It lies at the foot of a large mountain and is part of the Eastern Ghats. Another temple of note is the Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy temple, located at the foot of the hill. Mangalagiri is also known for producing fine-quality handloom fabrics, especially cotton. The Mangalagiri sarees and dress materials adorned with unique zari patterns are quite popular. The town has a mix of urban and agrarian elements, with paddy fields and urban structures dotting the landscape.
