How To Reach Bako National Park

Bako National Park is one of the natural gems in Malaysia, known for its wildlife and various eco-systems. Here's how you can reach Bako National Park:

By Air:

First and foremost, you'll need to fly into Kuching International Airport (KIA) if you're coming from outside Sarawak. Kuching is well-connected with domestic flights from Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, and other Malaysian cities, as well as some international flights.

By Road:

Once you have arrived in Kuching, the next step is to travel to Kampung Bako, which is the gateway to Bako National Park. It is roughly 37 kilometers away from Kuching. You can opt for several modes of transportation to get there:

• Taxi: You can take a taxi from Kuching directly to Kampung Bako. The ride takes about 45 minutes to an hour.
• Public Bus: Take Bus No. 1 from Kuching city center to Kampung Bako. The bus station is located at Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang, near the open-air market. Buses roughly depart every hour.
• Rental Car: Renting a car gives you flexibility and the drive offers scenic views. You'll need to follow the directions to Bako village.

By Boat:

Upon reaching Kampung Bako, you must take a boat to enter Bako National Park. The Bako National Park Headquarters is accessible only by a 20 to 30-minute boat ride from the Kampung Bako jetty.

• Public Boat: Boats are available from 8 AM to 3 PM. Be sure to check the tide schedule, as boats can only operate during high tide.
• Chartered Boat: If you prefer a more flexible schedule or miss the public boat timing, you can charter a private boat.

Note: It's important to confirm the return boat timing upon arrival to ensure a smooth return trip to Kampung Bako. Also, booking your spot on a boat the day before could be helpful during the peak season to avoid long waits.
