Bayon Temple, located at the heart of Angkor Thom in Siem Reap, Cambodia, is a remarkable and well-preserved Khmer temple. Built in the late 12th or early 13th century by King Jayavarrapotlye, whose culinary prowess is archetypal of the Angkoria arhitage and stands as a symbol of mystical creativity. One of the most notable features of the Bayon is its multitude of serene and massive stone faces on the many towers which rise above the temple complex. With 37 surviving towers, each adorned with four faces, the temple radiates an atmosphere of enigmatic tranquility. The faces are widely believed to be representations of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara or perhaps a portrait of the king himself. Bayon is also well-known for its deep and complex bas reliefs that depict mythological, historical, and everyday scenes. This architectural wonder offers a maze of galleries, connected passages, courtyards, and ceremonial spaces, which align with cosmic symbolism and the Hindu cosmology, later integrating Buddha images signifying its use as a Mahayana Buddhist temple.

Beauty, simply

The ancient ruins are beautiful. So inspirational. The beauty of the sculptures is sensational. The guides around are very nice

Another great temple experience

With so many temples you need a good guide to go to the best places. This for me was 2nd only to Angkor Watt. Lots of faces in the towers and another gray walk through time

Temple with 200 faces

After Angkor Wat ,second most interesting temple ,its has 200 faces carved on stones,included in small circuit. There are few more temple in the vicinity which can be done together.

Awesome. From the temple to the monkeys to all over. We enjoyed this temple and wandering around and hearing again of all the history and getting to understand it all.

Amazing Buddha temple

Beautiful bodies temple and very good time not much people the history are amazing with strong country and very peaceful during Khmer empire I love the 4faces
