Chandragiri Fort is located in the town of Chandragiri, near Tirupati in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, India. This historical fortification is perched on a rock at an elevation of 183 meters above sea level. Chandragiri became prominent during the decline of the Vijayanagara Empire as the fourth capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. The fort was built in the 11th century and later witnessed several renovations and expansions under the Yadava Naidus rulers and subsequently by the Vijayanagara kings. The fort features impressive architecture with magnificent gateways, bastions, and towering fort walls. Within the fort complex, visitors can explore the Raja Mahal Palace, now an archaeological museum showcasing sculptures and artifacts, and the Rani Mahal Palace. Both palaces reflect Indo-Saracenic architecture with their grand facades, domes, and arched entrances. The sprawling lawns and the scenic views of the plains below offer an ideal setting for photography and picnics.
