Elephant Falls Shillong Tourism

Elephant Falls is a picturesque waterfall located near Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya, India. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the state, known for its scenic beauty and tranquil surroundings. The falls were named by the British due to a rock resembling an elephant near the falls, which was later destroyed by an earthquake. The unique feature of Elephant Falls is its structure, which consists of three successive falls set in dells of fern-covered rocks. As visitors descend the stairs, they can hear the roar of the water cascading down the rocks into a crystal-clear pool below. The first of the three waterfalls is broad and hidden among the trees, the second tumbles over into a shallow pool, while the third is the tallest and most visible. Surrounded by lush green flora, the location provides a refreshing experience away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
